We’re not suggesting that you start believing in Father Christmas.

No, we’re suggesting something quite different – that  you believe in yourself.  But more to the point, that you believe in belief.

Rippling back to your childhood, can you remember how good it felt to believe in Santa Claus?  And can you remember how what you believed affected how you behaved?

You’d almost certainly have improved your behaviour in the belief that you could make good things happen and get what you want.  And how great did it feel when it worked?

At Unleash & Engage, we offer a real life version of this.  We coach people and organisations to believe in themselves and in their innate capabilities.

Within our world-renowned SOE® (Sustainable Operational Excellence) programme, we explore the science behind thoughts and beliefs. Our behaviour is driven by our beliefs, our attitudes and how we feel about ourselves.  If we feel great, then we’re more likely to do and achieve great things. If we don’t, then the opposite is more likely to happen.

This is why, as part of SOE®, we encourage people to discuss the things they’ve always believed about themselves and consider whether these things are even true.

Very often, they’re not.  In our experience, people in any workplace are far smarter and more capable than they realise, it’s just a matter of belief.

And once they have that belief in themselves, in each other and in the shared goals of their organisation, the whole place is transformed. People are far happier, more productive and more engaged because self-belief has unleashed their full potential.

Those we’ve coached start attaining levels of performance they didn’t believe were possible. And the change is permanent. They carry on improving and breaking their own records week after week, month after month, long after we’ve gone.

And it’s not just about business performance.  They’re invariably happier and more confident about who they are and what they can do, both inside and outside the workplace. That behaviour then ripples out into the wider world and has a beneficial effect on hundreds more people who will never know why.

All because self-doubt has been replaced by self-belief.

In many ways, we’re all the same.  As children, we’d have been on our best behaviour in the run up to Christmas. Because of our belief in Santa Claus, we changed our habits to bring about positive outcomes and real rewards.

And as we’ve seen many times and in countless organisations, this simple change of habit is hugely effective in real life.

Which is why, at this time of the year, it’s good to channel the innocence of childhood.  Or to look at it another way, the wisdom of childhood.

Meanwhile, have a wonderful Christmas.

And when we say “Be good”, we mean it.
